The version information in this table indicates which products changed going from CD v1.x to CD v1.2. IBM ESCON CD Version Comparison Product Description CD v1.0 CD v1.1 CD v1.2 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ESCON Adapter Drivers (NW) v5.3.0 v5.4.2 v5.5.0 ESCON Adapter Drivers (NT) v5.3.0 v5.4.2 v5.5.0 ESCON Adapter Drivers (UnixWare) n/a n/a v5.5.0 IBM Comm Server DLC (NT) v1.3.0 v2.0.0 v2.1.0 MS SNA Server Link Service (NT) v2.2.7 v2.2.7 v3.0.0 TCP/IP Pass-thru (NT) v2.0.1 v2.0.1 v2.2.0 TCP/IP Pass-thru (NW) v1.7.0 v1.7.0 v1.7.0 * Multi Path Channel Driver (NT) v1.0.0 v1.1.0 v2.0.0 TCP/IP Direct Connect (NT) v1.0.0 v1.1.0 v2.0.0 ESCON Adapter Firmware v1.7 v2.0 v2.3 ESCON Adapter POST Code v5.7 v5.9 v5.9 * - Indicates no change between CD v1.x and v1.2 General Upgrade Guidelines It is required that when upgrading from CD v1.X to v1.2, that all products (from the above list) currently installed on a Nefinity Server be upgraded together, as a group. This does not apply to the products which did not change (see the table above). ESCON Configuration Changes (Duplicate Device Address Support) The IBM ESCON CD v1.2 release, now provides full EMIF addressing capability. I.E - allows duplicate Devcice Address entries on the same ESCON adapter. This will be evident in each of the configuration screens. In previous releases, products such as SNA Server or TCPIP Direct Connect, would associate their Device Address with an ESCON adapter configuration Device Address. The new CD v1.2 drivers work a bit differently. You still need to enter the ESCON configuration information as before under ESCON adapter properties. The user interface has been improved and hopefully will be easier to use. From the application (I.E. TCP/IP Direct Connect) you will have to select, an Adapter, an ESCON Path, and a Device Address. These three fields are in the form of pulldown lists, created from the ESCON adapter configuration properties. The ESCON path field is derived from the combination of, LPAR, Link Address, and CU Address. See the Install Guide and help screens for more details. TCP/IP Direct Connect "Emulation Type" Changes Please note TCP/IP Direct Connect has changed the required "Emulation Type" within the ESCON configuration. It now requires that the "MPC" emulation type be used, not "Gen". See the Install guide for more details. Upgrade Overview - NOVELL NETWARE Note: See the Individual Product Guidelines below for more detail. 1) Update the ESCON Adapter POST code (found on Web, see TIP ESCON531 below) 2) Update the ESCON Adapter Firmware. 3) Un-install the old ESCON Adapter Drivers. 4) Install the new ESCON Adapter Drivers. 5) Edit the ESCON configuration file per the new full EMIF format. 6) Re-boot (hard reset) the SERVER, and re-start all applications. Individual Product Upgrade Guidelines: ESCON ADAPTER DRIVERS for Windows NT - Upgrading to the new driver requires de-installation and re-installation. This is accomplished using the standard Windows NT adapter installation process. I.E. goto Network Properties, click on the "Adapters" tab, remove all existing IBM ESCON adapters and re-boot. After re-boot go back to Network Properties, click on the Adapters tab, do an ADD, use the Have Disk button and specify a path to the \WINNT directory on the CD. NOTE: Remember to record the Adapter configuration settings before adapter removal, otherwise these settings will be lost. See the Installation Guide for more details. ESCON ADAPTER DRIVERS for Novell intraNetware - Upgrading to the new driver requires de-installation and re-installation. This is accomplished using the standard Netware Product Install process, I.E. LOAD INSTALL, and select the Product Options menu, delete the existing APCA entry and when that completes, install the new APCA driver from the \NETWARE directory on the CD. NOTE: Minor changes (edits) to the ESCON configuration file will be required if upgrading from 1.x to 1.2. See the Installation Guide on Defining the ESCON Configuration (Netware) for more details. IBM COMMUNICATIONS SERVER DLC for Windows NT - Upgrading the CSNT ESCON DLC requires de-installation and reinstallation. Under the Control Panel open the Add/Remove Programs ICON and remove the CDLC, close, and re-boot. After re-boot run the SETUP.EXE program in the \WINNT\CSNT sub-directory on the CD. Re-boot again. NOTE: Any existing CS/NT configuration files (.ACG files) will have to be modified before they can be used with this release. I.E. Open the Node Configuration program, and open the ACG file of interest. All ESCON Links will have to be modified. ESCON Links can be found under the PEER Connections or HOST Connections areas (or both). Modify each ESCON link found in these areas. When modifying the ESCON Link you will see a Link Configuration TAB. Fill in the sections entitled Channel Adapter, ESCON Path, and Device. Save the ACG file. Start CS/NT back up. MICROSOFT SNA SERVER Link Service for Windows NT - Upgrading the SNA Server Link Service requires de-installation and reinstallation. I.E. within the SNA Server Manager delete all ESCON Channel Link Services (ECLINKs). If the existing ECLINK does not allow you the "delete" option, then you will have to go to NT's "Control Panel, Services" menu list and STOP all ECLINKx serives that are running. Once the ECLINKx is deleted from SNA Manager, save the SNA configuration and exit the Manager. Under Control Panel open the Add/Remove Programs ICON and remove the "Channel Link Service for SNA Server", close, and re-boot. After re-boot run the SETUP.EXE program in the \WINNT\SNASVR sub-directory on the CD. Once re-installed, start SNA Server Manager again, re-create the ECLINKs, and assign each connection back to the newly created link(s). NOTE: For multiple ECLINKs remember to record which link was assigned to which connection, before removal, otherwise these settings may be lost. See the Installtion Guide for more details. TCPIP PASS-THRU for Windows NT - Upgrading TCPIP PASS-THRU for NT requires de-installation and reinstallation. This is accomplished using the standard Windows NT protocol installation process from "Network Properties". First remove TCPIP PASS-THRU from thte protocol list, re-boot NT, and then add a the new protocol and specify the \WINNT\TCPIP_PT sub-directory on the CD. NOTE: Remember to record the TCPIP PASS-THRU configuration settings before removal, otherwise these settings will be lost. See the Product Installation Guide for more details. TCPIP PASS-THRU for Netware - No changes between CD v1.X and v1.2. MULTI-PATH CHANNEL Driver for Windows NT - Upgrading the MPC driver requires de-installation and re-installation.
