CONTENTS -Before you begin -Removing an existing WaveRunner installation -Installing the WaveRunner ISDN/Analog modem -Updates from the previous WaveRunner release -Existing known bugs/problems -Special information for Thinkpad 380 and 770 users ****************** *BEFORE YOU BEGIN* ****************** NOTE: You MUST clear up any hardware conflicts (red "X"s and yellow "!"s) in Device Manager (In Control Panel, double- click System) before attempting a WaveRunner installation. Before you begin your WaveRunner installation, be sure you have the following items installed on your computer 1. Dial-up Networking (DUN), DUN 1.2 or DIALs 2. Dial-up Adapter 3. TCP/IP Consult Windows 95 Help for instructions on “Dial-up Networking,” "network adapter, adding," and "TCP/IP, installing," respectively, to install the above items. The manufacturer for all is Microsoft. ******************************************** *Removing existing WaveRunner installations* ******************************************** If you have previous installations of any WaveRunner adapter, follow the instructions below to remove it. 1. Copy WRUNINST.EXE from the Installation software to the Windows directory 2. Click on Start and select Run 3. Type C:\WINDOWS\WRUNINST.EXE (use your Windows path) 4. Click OK 5. Follow the on-screen instructions ********************************************* *Installing the WaveRunner ISDN/Analog Modem* ********************************************* 1. If you have not done so already, uninstall previous versions of WaveRunner software by following the directions above. 2. If your WaveRunner software is not on your hard disk or network disk, insert WaveRunner Installation Disk 1 or CD- ROM. 3. In My Computer, open up the disk or folder where the WaveRunner software resides (e.g., if you are installing from diskette, you would open 3 1/2 floppy). 4. Double-click the Setup icon. 5. Follow the on-screen instructions NOTE: SETUP will not run from a DOS shell or from RUN on some systems. Only follow the steps above to run SETUP. ******************************************************* *Updates from the Previous WaveRunner Release 29.05.97* ******************************************************* - New installation procedure (SETUP.EXE) for all adapters. - Modem configuration (sound, etc.) is now controlled through the Windows 95 Modem Properties. THIS REQUIRES THAT IF THE WR VERSION YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM IS THE 5/29 ("GOLD") VERSION OR BEFORE, YOU MUST DELETE AND REBUILD ANY DUN CONNECTOIDS THAT USE THE WaveRunner INTERNAL MODEM, WaveRunner PCMCIA MODEM OR WaveRunner V120 MODEM. - The memory range for use by the PCMCIA card has been limited to less than 0x000FFFFF. This corrects a problem when trying to address memory above that value. - Uninstall will prompt the user if it can't figure out the bus. It used to assume PCMCIA. - WaveRunner Property page strips non-numeric characters from phone numbers and SPIDs. - WaveRunner Property page pre-fills the SPID with the entered phone number. - WaveRunner Program Group is no longer left open on desktop after installation. - Corrected error where WaveRunner ISDN/Analog PCMCIA Modem would appear as an invalid modem in the modem control panel for OSR2. - Corrected error where Japanese users would see "WaveRunner line not active. Your SPID may be invalid," in a message box. The message was invalid. - PCMCIA sound volume increased. - Fixed "early connection cancel" bug. You should now be able to reconnect without rebooting if you cancel your DUN connection. - ISA Rev C supported. - The Help file is now found in Port Monitor and Modem. - Support for DUN 1.2 in Setup. - Corrected error where two telco screens appeared in pre- OSR2 installs. - Hong Kong support has been changed from North American ISDN to Euro ISDN. - Uninstall program will now fully uninstall the WaveRunner program group. - Corrected a problem that resulted in a RUNDLL.32 error. - Version Information has been added to the WaveRunner program group. - New and improved setup Help file. - Abort button added to setup help file. This button aborts the WaveRunner setup program and will uninstall any WaveRunner files that may have been copied. ****************************** *Existing Known Bugs/Problems* ****************************** Please check the IBM website http://www.networking.ibm.com/nes/neshome.html for updates and fixes to the problems listed below. MWAVE Incompatibilities – Earlier versions of the Mwave manager on systems with an onboard Mwave chip were shipped with Version 2.1 of the Mwave Manager. This should be updated from the IBM web site or by calling the IBM help center. Before installing new MWAVE code, uninstall WaveRunner. After installing the new MWAVE code, reinstall WaveRunner. Analog Hiss - Depending on your machine, the analog modem driver may create an audible hiss when the modem driver is loaded and started. This is a hardware compatibility issue that, while annoying, will not cause any degradation in the performance of your WaveRunner adapter. Password Verification Hang – On some systems, WaveRunner connects but during password verification, the system hangs. There is currently no remedy for this problem but one is being developed. DIALS/DUN1.2 – The DIALs client may report “Connect Failed: Invalid Channel Specified.” This is believed to occur only when DIALs has been installed over DUN 1.2. Uninstall WaveRunner, then uninstall DIALs and DUN 1.2. Install DUN (not 1.2), then install DIALs and WaveRunner. ERR26/Adapter Not Available - On some machines, you may get an ERR26 or Adapter Not Available message when trying to start the Port Monitor or any other part of the WaveRunner installation. To resolve this, click Start->Shut down- >Restart and, while holding down the Shift key, click restart. A permanent resolution to this problem is being worked on. Token Ring adapter conflicts - Some Token Ring adapters may create IRQ conflicts with the WaveRunner. To resolve this problem, manually assign IRQ addresses. Processor Speed - It has been reported that some systems with high processor speeds (PII above 180Mhz), hang while trying to connect with the WaveRunner. Currently, there is no solution for this problem but a solution is being worked on. TAPIEXE error – On some systems, when the user tries to connect or "Make New Connection" in DUN he/she gets a dialog saying "TAPIEXE error.” Please download the WAN.TSP file from the IBM site listed at the top of this page. Replace your existing WAN.TSP file located in the C:\Windows\System directory, with the one you downloaded. V120 - For PCMCIA, if you remove and reinsert the card, a question mark appears on the 2nd WaveRunner modem (usually V120) in Device Manager. To resolve this, simply reboot. ACCCFG.EXE – During installation, Setup reports that acccfg.exe is not found. This happens after installing MSISDN then going through Add Network Adapter. This happens as a result of a Windows 95 anomaly that will not allow directory names greater than eight characters. Revert to the eight character equivalent of the directory (e.g. C:\WaveRunner\Drivers would be C:\WAVERU~1\Drivers. ***************************************************** *Special information for Thinkpad 380 and 770 users * ***************************************************** IBM ships with the TP 380 and TP770 a new software tool called CardWorks or CardWizard. This is a tool to install PCMCIA adapters. To get the WaveRunner ISDN/Analog modem and other PCMCIA's running in this software, click on Viewer->Properties->Driver->Card Driver Change and change the settings to Plug and Play.
