================================================================== PLEASE READ THIS FILE BEFORE BEGINNING THE DRIVER INSTALLATION. ================================================================== What this package contains: =========================== This package contains new audio device drivers for use with Windows '95 (tm), Windows 3.1 (tm) and OS/2 Warp (tm) This package contains four diskette images. The following instructions will guide you through creating the diskette & installing the software. You will need three 3.5" diskettes, formatted for 1.44 Meg. Creating the diskettes: ======================= 1. Download the DSKFBIN files to your workstation in binary mode (WITHOUT character translation or line feed & carriage return insertion). 2. Format three 2MB diskette to 1.44MB. 3. Use LOADDSKF to create the new diskette: Example: LOADDSKF 701AUOS2.DSK A: LOADDSKF can be obtained from IBM separately. 4. Download the BUTAUDIO LABEL file in ASCII mode (allow character translations or insertions for your workstation). 5. Use this file to print diskette labels on your printer using a utility such as LBLPRINT (also available from IBM). ================================================================== YOU ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO WRITE PROTECT THIS DISKETTE & PROTECT IT AS YOU WOULD ANY OTHER ORIGINAL SOFTWARE DISKETTE. ================================================================== Installing the software: ======================== Windows '95 ----------- 1. Put the driver diskette into the A: diskette drive. 2. From the Control Panel open Add New Hardware. 3. At the Hardware types menu select Sound, video and games controllers. Click the Have Disk button. 4. From the Select Device Models table, select ESS ES688 AudioDrive. OS/2 Warp --------- 1. Open an OS/2 Window and run the ESUNINST.EXE program on the installation disk by typing "A:ESUNINST". This program will create a backup of CONFIG.SYS named CONFIG.ESS and remove the audio device lines from CONFIG.SYS. It also creates a backup of MMPM2.INI named MMPM2.ESS and removes the audio drivers information from MMPM2.INI. 2. Run the new MINSTALL.EXE program on the installation disk by typing "A:MINSTALL". Select AudioDrive ES688 and WinOS2/Windows Audio support. Once the drivers are loaded, shutdown and restart OS/2 for the new ES688 drivers to take effect. Windows 3.1 ----------- 1. Put the driver diskette into the A: diskette drive. 2. From the Windows Program Manager, Select File->Run.
