IBM ThinkPad 560X April 23, 1999 System Program Service Diskette Version 1.13 (I8ET31WW) ======================================================================== What This Diskette Does ----------------------- This System Program Service Diskette updates the system BIOS program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. The supported models are as follows. - ThinkPad 560X To determine if you should update the system program, please refer to the "Summary of Change" section. Summary of Change ----------------- Key: Diskette Version (for example, 1.00 means Version 1.00) (New) New Function or Enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <1.00 - I8ET23WW> - (Fix) If attached DIMM does not supports self-refresh, do nothing related to refresh control. <1.01 - I8ET24WW> - (Fix) Keystroke entry immediately after entering the power on password can result in failure of proper recognition of subsequent keystrokes That is, a keystroke immediately after the entry of a password (before the operating system is fully loaded), can cause problems with any subsequent keyboard entry. If you experience this problem, update the BIOS with this SPSD. - (Fix) If any flicker or jitter is noticed in various images on HPA LCD models, update the BIOS with this SPSD to update the video bios to improve the appearance of the images. <1.10 - I8ET27WW> - (Fix) Not resume from low-battery hibernation mode - (Fix) NT4.0:System hung happens when system boot in battery mode. System hung is observed in 0-5 mins. - (Fix) Cannot enter Hibernation after RediSafe . - (Fix) Cannot enter hibernation mode when a hibernation file exists on a hidden partition . - (Fix) Fix the problem that shut down suddenly in low power state if "Hibernation by low battery" setting is enable and hibernation (by low battery) is fail. - (Fix) CHKDSK.COM does not run from command prompt after executing RediSafe-suspend / resume with opening window or full screen, if installed FIX PACK-005 over OS/2 4.0 . - (Fix) Screen off Timer is not restored after changing presentation mode. - (Fix) TCO application may report invalid information for memory. - (New) Support for Windows 98. <1.11 - I8ET28WW> - (Fix) Hang at the updating Windows95 screen when installing Windows95 in some cases. - (Fix) Serial mouse is not working on resume from hibernation - (Fix) Password can not be input, when the system is put into standby mode (rather than suspend) by the suspend timer function when attached to a docking station. - (Fix) When the power on password is set in Windows98 and the system is put into standby mode (rather than suspend) by other conditions, the password icon screen comes up by a key input after the screen goes blank by the screen timer off function. (Notice) It is highly recommended to update the following video driver along with this system program update. ThinkPad Video Features Diskette III for Windows 95 Version 6.14.00Q or later. <1.12 - I8ET29WW> - (Fix) POST 301 error occur at reboot timing - (Fix) Change the voltage drop timing of PCMCIA slot in battery mode at power off. - (Fix) Microsoft IntelliMouse is disabled after suspend/resume on Windows 98 APM mode. <1.13 - I8ET31WW> - (New) Support for Windows 2000 Professional Beta-3 Release - (Fix) Once system wakes up from standby mode (Fn+F3) on Windows 98, HDD motor stops if Windows 98 does not access to HDD about 5sec. HDD off timer setting in control panel becomes invalid. - (Fix) The system might incorrectly resume normal operation from the suspend mode. (This does not happen under normal condition.) Updating System Program ----------------------- Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - If your computer is attached to a port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 5. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 6. Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on the screen. Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, run the diagnostics to make sure that the computer runs with no errors: 7. Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive, then turn off the computer. 8. Press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears. 9. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 10. Select Test, then select Start to run all the basic tests. Various test patterns will appear on the screen. An OK will appear for each device that passes the test. 11. Verify that OK appears for all of the devices tested. 12. Press the Esc key to exit Test and turn off the computer.
