External PCMCIA CD-ROMs Supported ================================= These CD-ROM drives are currently support by the RECOVERY boot diskette: 1) IBM Portable CD-ROM Drive CD-20X 2) CNF Portable CD-ROM XA Drive 2X Preload recovery limitations when using PCMCIA CD-ROMs ====================================================== Only the machine's PCMCIA slots are supported. Do not use the PCMCIA slots of any port replicator or docking station to attach the supported CD-ROM drives. Undock the machine to be restored before using the recovery boot diskette. ############################################################################ RECOVERY INFORMATION ==================== 1. How to reset the recovery process ------------------------------------ The recovery process maintains a log of each step during preload restoration. In the event of process interruption (power off, re-BOOT) before completion, the log must be reset. Failure to reset the log will cause the process to attempt to continue from the last completed step and unpredictable results will occur. To reset the log, first exit to DOS (BOOT the recovery diskette and press F5 at the "IBM ThinkPad" logo) and then type RESETC at the DOS command prompt. 2. Recovery limitations ----------------------- WARNING: BACKUP ALL VITIAL DATA BEFORE CONTINUING! All data on the hard drive will be destroyed if "Factory Default Partitioning and Format All Drives" is chosen. All data only on the C: drive will be destroyed if "Use Existing Partitioning and Format C: Drive Only" is chosen. The recovery process is designed to restore to one (1) hard drive only. Ensure the hard drive to be recovered is located in the ThinkPad and not attached to the Ultrabay or a Docking station. The data on all other hard drives risk data corruption or loss if this condition is not met.
