Installation Guide ------------------ HOW TO DETERMINE WHAT VERSION IS INSTALLED (Windows 95/98) 1. Start Windows 95/98. 2. Click on 'Start' -> 'Find' -> 'Files or Folders...'. 3. Click on the 'Name & Location' tab. 4. In the 'Named:' field, type in "track.vxd". 5. In the 'Look in:' field, specify "Local Hard drives (C:,D:)". 6. Click on the 'Find Now' button. Windows will now search your hard drive for track.vxd. If the file is not found, then the TrackPoint driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the 'Found' part of the window, right click on "track.vxd" located in "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM" and select "Properties". 8. Click on the "Version" tab. File version information will be displayed. HOW TO DETERMINE WHAT VERSION IS INSTALLED (Windows NT) 1. Start Windows NT. 2. Click on 'Start' -> 'Find' -> 'Files or Folders...'. 3. Click on the 'Name & Location' tab. 4. In the 'Named:' field, type in "twotrack.sys". 5. In the 'Look in:' field, specify "Local Hard drives (C:,D:)". 6. Click on the 'Find Now' button. Windows will now search your hard drive for twotrack.sys. If the file is not found, then the TrackPoint driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the 'Found' part of the window, select the "twotrack.sys" file located in "C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS". 8. Scroll the window to the right and look at the 'Modified' column. The time stamp on the file will be the version number. NT - TWOTRACK.SYS 16,608 10-20-99 01:20a - is version 1.20 This information will also apply to Windows 95/98. The file to look for is "track.vxd": 95/98 - TRACK.VXD 23,717 10-20-99 01:20a - is version 1.20 Notes: - Before installing this driver, you must uninstall the current program. HOW TO UNINSTALL THE DRIVER --------------------------- 1. Start Windows 95/98 or NT 4.0. 2. Click on 'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Control Panel'. 3. Double-click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon. 4. Click on the "Install/Uninstall" tab at the top of the "Add/Remove Programs Properties" window. 5. Click on "IBM TrackPoint Support" in the list. 6. Click on the "Add/Remove..." button. 7. Restart Windows. HOW TO INSTALL IN WINDOWS 98 ---------------------------- 1. Start Windows 98 2. Extract the driver onto the hard drive. 3. Click on 'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Control Panel'. 4. Double-click on the "System" icon. 5. Click on the "Device Manager" tab at the top of the "System Properties" window. 6. Double-click on the "Mouse". 7. Double-click on either "PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port" or "PS/2 TrackPoint" whichever choice appears in the list. 8. Click on the "Driver" tab. 9. Click on the "Update Driver..." button. The "Update Device Driver Wizard" runs. 10. Click on "Next". 11. Click on "Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want". 12. Click on "Next". 13. Click on "Have Disk". 14. Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted. Default path is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\TPOINT\. Then click on 'OK' button. Then driver list appears. 15. Click on "PS/2 TrackPoint" in the list. 16. Click on "Next". 17. Click on "Next". 18. Click on "Finish" in the "Update Device Driver Wizard" window. 19. Restart your computer to make the new settings effective. HOW TO INSTALL IN WINDOWS 95 or NT 4.0 -------------------------------------- 1. Start Windows 95 or NT. If running Windows NT, logon with administrative privilege. 2. Extract the drivers onto the hard drive. 3. Click on 'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Control Panel'. 4. Double-click on the "Mouse" icon. 5. Click on the "General" tab. 6. Click on "Change". 7. Click on "Have Disk". 8. Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted. Default path is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\TPOINT\. Then click on 'OK' button. The driver list appears. 9. Select "PS/2 TrackPoint" in the list. 10. Click on "OK". 11. Click on "Close" in the "Mouse Properties" window. 12. If running Windows NT, go to 'Devices' in 'Control Panel'. If the 'i8042 Keyboard and PS/2 Mouse Port' has been disabled, change it back to 'System'. Failure to do this will cause the TrackPoint and keyboard not to function after rebooting. 13. Restart your computer to make the new settings active.
