Windows 98 Supplement File II

Notice:
-------
If you use the Product Recovery CD-ROM shipped with your ThinkPad to
restore the Windows 95/98 preload environment, you don't need this
package. This package is required when you install Windows 95/98 without
the Product Recovery CD-ROM.


What This Package Does
-----------------------
The ThinkPad listed below incorporates several new devices that were not
available when Windows 98 was announced.  This package provides the
supplement files to support the new devices and to fix some problems
for Windows 98 users.

This package contains:
        - Updated INF files for Laptop resolution,
        - Texas Instruments PCI CardBus support and registry patch file
          for CardBus/Ethernet Port Replicator support.

This package is applicable to:
        - ThinkPad 570

Installation Guide
------------------

HOW TO INSTALL:

Windows 98 Gold (Version 4.10.1998)
===================================
I. Installation of Windows 98 Operating System.

1. Copy all the cabinet files and installation programs in Windows 98
   retail CD-ROM to your HDD as follows.
 1.1. Make a temporary directory ( for instance, C:\WIN98) and make sure
      enough harddisk space is available to store the cabinet files and
      installation programs (the required free space varies depending on
      the language of Windows 98)
 1.2. Copy all the cabinet (.CAB) files and installation programs from
      the \WIN98 directory of Windows 98 CD.

        Type "COPY src_cd:\WIN98\*.* destination"   and press Enter.

      Where src_cd is the drive letter of CD-ROM drive (e.g. D, E,..) and
      destination is the drive letter and temporary directory made in
      step 1-1 (e.g. C:\WIN98)

2. Copy updated INF files from the Windows 98 supplement file diskette to
   the temporary directory.
 2-1. Insert the Windows 98 Supplement File Diskette into a floppy drive.
 2-2. From a command prompt, type in the following and press enter:

         COPY A:\W98GOLD\*.* destination

      Where destination is the drive letter and temporary directory made
      in step 1-1 (e.g. C:\WIN98).

3. Start installation from the temporary directory
 3.1. Run "Setup.exe" in the temporary directory
 3.2. Refer to the Windows 98 documentation and instructions on the screen
      to complete the installation.

Windows 98 Second Edition (4.10.2222A)
======================================
I. Installation of Windows 98 Operating System.

1. Copy all the cabinet files and installation programs in Windows 98 Second
   Edition retail CD-ROM to your HDD as follows.
 1.1. Make a temporary directory ( for instance, C:\WIN98) and make sure
      enough harddisk space is available to store the cabinet files and
      installation programs (the required free space varies depending on
      the language of Windows 98)
 1.2. Copy all the cabinet (.CAB) files and installation programs from
      the \WIN98 directory of Windows 98 CD.

        Type "COPY src_cd:\WIN98\*.* destination"   and press Enter.

      destination is the drive letter and temporary directory made in

         COPY A:\W98SE\*.* destination

      Where destination is the drive letter and temporary directory made
      in step 1-1 (e.g. C:\WIN98).

3. Start installation from the temporary directory
 3.1. Run "Setup.exe" in the temporary directory.
 3.2. Refer to the Windows 98 documentation and instructions on the screen
      to complete the installation.



Both Windows 98 Gold and Windows 98 Second Edition

II. Apply APM2APM.reg information into Windows 98.

1. Boot the system to the Windows 98 desktop.
2. Insert the Windows 98 Supplement File Diskette into the floppy drive.
3. Click on the 'Start' menu button and select 'Run ...'.
4. Type "A:\APM2APM\APM2APM.reg" and click the 'OK' button.

   The following Registry Editor's windows will appear:
   "Are you sure you want to add the information A:\apm2apm\apm2apm.reg
    to the registry?"

5. Select [Yes].
   A successful windows message will be displayed.
6. Select 'OK' to exit the registry editor screen.
