README.TXT For IBM MPEG PLAYER Windows NT 4.0 and 3.51 drivers Drivers Rel 4.0 - 3/28/97 ========================= This file contains important information . Please take time to read through it for the proper installation and use of the drivers. CONTENTS ======== 1 - SOFTWARE INSTALLATION 2 - BORDER ADJUSTMENT AND CALIBRATION 3 - REALmagic MIXER 4 - REALmagic FILE DESCRIPTIONS 5 - MCI COMMANDS NOT SUPPORTED 6 - MISCELLANEOUS 1 - SOFTWARE INSTALLATION ===================== 1 - For NT 3.51, in the Program Manager, menu option File-Run, start the program Setup from your floppy drive (e.g. A:). For NT 4.0, click on Start, Run, "Setup" from floppy drive. 2 - You will get a screen from InstallShield and a Welcome window. Click on Next. 3 - Setup will suggest "C:\Program Files\IBM MPEG\" as a default directory. Click "Next" to accept or type your preferred name. 4 - Setup will suggest a name for the group/folder "IBM MPEG". Click on "Next" to accept or type your preferred name. 5 - Setup will start copying the files to the different directories. See at the end the list of this file. 6 - After copying, you get an "information" window informing you that this portion of Setup is done. You need still to define the resources. Click OK. 7 - You will see the new folder for "IBM MPEG". Double-click on "IBM MPEG Configuration". 8 - Choose at the right side the IRQ, DMA, and Port that are free. For the port, you can click the down arrow to see the possible choices. Also click the "Load at boot" if you wish so. If you don't, you MUST type "net start rmpro" at the command prompt after NT has finished booting. 9 - Click OK for the message "You must restart Windows to have changes take effect". 10- If the drivers do not load, find the error message reported by the driver. This message will be displayed if you manually started the driver (with "net start rmpro"), or it will be in the event viewer (with the "Load at boot" option). Error message Cause ------------- ----- Invalid Address There is some kind of resource conflict. Verify that the IRQ, DMA, and IO chosen are not in use. Internal Inconsistency A DMA Buffer could not be allocated. Try using the driver in the \extra directory on the disk. Note that using DMA will usually result in "smoother multitasking". Device Not Ready The board could not be found at the specifed address. Try choosing another address, then restart the computer by powering off/on. Usually, the case is that the IO address is already being used, but not reported or that the board is not in the computer! NOTE : To uninstall, double click on the "Uninstaller" icon from the IBM MPEG group. This will delete all specific files and will remove the group. 2 - BORDER ADJUSTMENT AND COLOR CALIBRATION ======================================= 1 - After rebooting, start "Media Player", go to menu option "Device", "IBM MPEG". Open from "File" an MPEG file. Under "Device", choose "Properties". 2 - BORDER ADJUST : Use the arrow keys to align the black window on top of the white window, making sure that it covers the black borders of the white window. To change the width of the black to match the width of the white window, click the proper buttons or use the +/- keys. Use also the up/down arrows of the Jittering to smoothen the vertical sides of the black rectangle. Click OK. 3 - AUTOMATIC CALIBRATION : Click this button to automatically calibrate the colors of the board. ADVANCED SETUP (rarely required) -------------- - BORDER ADJUST : Control the stability, horizontal frequency, and jittering in this screen. - MANUAL CALIBRATION : Move the RGB sliders until you see the requested pattern and click next. Repeat 4 times. - COLOR CALIBRATION : Move the pairs of RGB sliders to have a black border around the rainbow pattern minimizing the black bleeding inside it. You can also change the chroma key color in this screen to one of the 16 specified colors. NOTE 1: You must set the Border Adjustment and Color Calibration settings to finalize the installation. You need to set the Border Adjustment and Color Calibration only once for each display settings (resolution, number of colors, and refresh rate) under Windows. NOTE 2: You can control in this main configuration screen the volume and balance of the MPEG Audio and the "Brightness, Saturation, and Contrast" of the colors. These settings can be for the default setting or for only a current MPEG file depending on the selection of the text box above. 3 - IBM MPEG FILE DESCRIPTIONS ========================== File List: Installed to: 1. rmpro.sys /winnt/system32/drivers 2. mpegport.sys /winnt/system32/drivers 3. vpfilter.sys /winnt/system32/drivers 4. amfilter.dll /winnt/system32 5. mpegapi.dll /winnt/system32 6. mcifmp32.dll /winnt/system32 7. rmtsk.exe /winnt/system32 8. procfg.exe /Program Files/IBM MPEG 9. readme.txt /Program Files/IBM MPEG 5 - MCI Commands NOT supported ========================== OpenMPEG MCI commands: - open VideoCD - open type VideoCD - realize (all subfunctions) - step by key - step key 6 - MISCELLANEOUS ============= - The MCI driver can be invoked with the following names : IBM MPEG, Reelmagic, or MpegVideo. - Support for OM-1 commands ( FMP calls ). - SUPPORT for MMIO functions to read data out of a hard drive (not when reading out of a CD-ROM). Therefore, you can use your own installed I/O procedure (see mmioOpen function and MMIOProc callback description for further details) to perform bufferized or device specific I/O. - See the file APP_NOTE.DOC for some specifics on MMIO functions. - MCI driver supports MCIWnd Class programming API. - The administrator and any user who has the right to modify the Registry are the only people who can install the drivers. They are also the only people to change the "Load at Boot" check box (even though others, such as guests, might change it but it will get reset at booting time). The guests are able to run the drivers in "Load at Boot" mode only ( they cannot use the "net start rmpro"). @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ ( END OF FILE )
