GPF Problems with PFS:WindowWorks There are some problems caused by the use of a Generic/Text Only printer driver. This driver is very basic and does not support Windows TrueType fonts or wrapping options. Text usually begins wrapping at the 5 inch mark of the document. There have also been occasions where the tutorial has locked up because of the use of the Generic/Text Only printer driver. These are the things you can do to correct this situation: 1. If you have a normal printer (HP, Epson, Panasonic, IBM, etc.) install that specific driver using the Control Panel. Open up (double-click) the Main program group icon. Open up the Control Panel icon, then the Printers icon. Now click on the Add button. From the list of printers, choose the printer that is attached to your system and click on Install. Now click on Connect and choose the port (usually LPT1) that your printer is connected to. Now, click on Set Default Printer and then Close. Now, in WindowWorks, select File, then Printer Setup on the menu bar in WindowWorks and highlight your printer. 2. If you do not have a printer, you will need to set up a standard Windows printer driver using the Control Panel procedure in the above step (the HP LaserJet Series II works well). Now, in WindowWorks, select File, then Printer Setup on the menu bar in WindowWorks and highlight your printer. 3. If you are using the Generic/Text Only printer driver because you have a daisy wheel printer, try to get a system-specific driver or try a basic printer such as an Epson RX-80 or IBM Proprinter. 4. This problem can also occur if the printer you have is active, but has not been selected; highlight it under File, then Printer Setup on the menu bar in WindowWorks. 5. There have been some occasions where the video driver has also caused this problem. You can correct this by using the standard VGA driver in Windows. If you have any questions about this procedure, please post a note in the PFS:WindowWorks topic area in the appropriate topic or forum area. Be sure to include your DOS version and your model number (i.e., 2155-G44).
